Booking Genius: What it is, How it Works, and the Real Discount?
Understand everything about Booking.com's Genius programme: the 3 levels, the conditions to access them, the actual discount percentage… and why Resapass often goes further.
Booking Genius, in a Nutshell
Genius is Booking.com's free loyalty programme. The more you book, the higher you climb in levels, and the more you access discounts and benefits at certain partner hotels.
The 3 Genius Levels
- Level 1 — 2 bookings over 2 years. A discount on a selection of Genius-marked hotels.
- Level 2 — 5 bookings over 2 years. Larger discounts, plus complimentary breakfast or room upgrade depending on the hotel.
- Level 3 — 15 bookings over 2 years. The highest discount, plus priority benefits.
> Many travellers look for a "Genius Level 4". It doesn't officially exist.
Is the Genius Discount Really Worthwhile?
- The percentage applies to the public Booking price, not the best market price. A rate negotiated directly with the hotel is often already below the public price, before any Genius discount.
- Not all hotels participate. During periods of high demand, many hotels deactivate the promotion.
How to Become Genius Quickly
- Link a single Booking account to all your reservations (business + personal).
- One night in a rural guesthouse counts as much as a suite in Paris.
- Cancelled refundable bookings do not count.
How to Remove Genius on Booking?
The status is tied to the account, so you don't "deactivate" it. You can filter Genius hotels via the search, or compare with another channel to check for the best price.
The Alternative: A Platform with Negotiated Rates
Where Genius applies a visible discount on a public price, a platform like Resapass offers negotiated rates with its partner hotels, with no levels to reach and no subscription.
- No levels to reach.
- Rates accessible from the first booking.
- Cancellation and conditions identical to classic OTAs.
In Summary
Genius is a great free option if you stick to Booking. For comparison, Resapass offers negotiated rates on over 2 million hotels, with no subscription and no membership fee: you only pay for your booking.
