Affordable French Riviera Hotels: Nice, Cannes, Antibes in 2026

The French Riviera is a dream destination — but hotel prices in July–August can double compared to the rest of the year. Good news: with a few simple rules, you can sleep facing the Mediterranean for the price of a night in a provincial town. Here’s our guide.

When is the best time for an affordable hotel on the French Riviera?

PeriodPrice LevelOur Verdict
January – March⭐ Very LowIdeal for budget, mild weather
April – May⭐⭐ MediumBest value for money/weather
June⭐⭐⭐ HighExcept for the first fortnight, still fair
July – August⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very HighAvoid unless flexible
September⭐⭐ MediumWarm sea, falling prices
October – November⭐ LowExcellent for short breaks

> 💡 Golden Rule: on the Riviera, mid-May and mid-September offer the best compromise of weather / price / crowds.

Nice: where to stay without paying too much

Nice remains the most accessible city on the Coast. The best deals are found outside the Promenade des Anglais:

  • Libération district: a 15-minute walk from the centre, 3-star hotels from €70-€90 per night off-peak.
  • Riquier / Port: authentic atmosphere, close to Old Nice and the sea.
  • Cimiez: quieter, ideal for families, prices often 20% lower.

To avoid for value for money: the Prom' and the airport area (expensive and uncharming).

Cannes: the "off-festival" strategy

In Cannes, prices are dictated by events: Film Festival (mid-May), MIPIM, MIPCOM, Cannes Lions… During these periods, a 3-star hotel can climb to €400/night. Always check the congress calendar before booking.

Outside of these events, Cannes offers excellent boutique 4-star hotels at €130-€180 per night in April, June, September, October.

Antibes & Juan-les-Pins: the smart option

Often 20 to 30% cheaper than Nice and Cannes for equivalent quality. Antibes' old town, Port Vauban, and Garoupe beach are well worth a visit. Our advice: aim for a hotel in Juan-les-Pins, a 10-minute walk from the beach.

The game-changing tip: negotiated rates

Independent hotels and mid-scale chains on the French Riviera grant 30-50% discounts to travel clubs that bring them volume — exactly like corporate agencies. These rates are never visible on Booking or Expedia.

This is exactly what Resapass does: £19.99/month to access over 7,000 hotels in France at negotiated prices, including over 200 on the French Riviera. For a 3-night stay in Nice in June, typical savings are around £180-£250 — more than enough to make the pass profitable from the first trip.

Recap: 5 rules for an affordable French Riviera hotel

  1. Avoid July–August if you can shift your dates.
  2. Book 2 to 3 months in advance off-peak, 4 to 6 months in July–August.
  3. Check the congress calendar in Cannes and Monaco.
  4. Compare Nice / Antibes / Juan-les-Pins — often the same beach at 25% off.
  5. Join a negotiated rates club like Resapass for B2B prices.
