Old Port — the essential central hub
The obvious choice for a first stay. You can do everything on foot: MUCEM, Panier, Notre-Dame de la Garde (via the little train or a good climb), restaurants. Drawback: noise in the evening on the quayside, aim for a courtyard-facing room or a high floor.
Price range: €140 to €280 per night in a 4* hotel.
Joliette / Euroméditerranée — the modern area
CMA-CGM Tower, Terrasses du Port, ferries. Ideal if you're taking the boat to Corsica or Sardinia. Quieter in the evening. Price: €120 to €220 in a 4* hotel.
Endoume / Catalans — the seaside area
For couples who want sea views and aperitifs on the rocks. Small boutique hotel, Frioul view, MUCEM accessible on foot via the Corniche. Often a little more expensive but much more charming.
Prado / Castellane — the quiet area with metro access
The neighbourhood for locals, quiet, 10 minutes by metro from the Old Port. 15-25% cheaper than the city centre for equivalent comfort. Ideal for families.
